Gardenia: Veitchii
The Basics
This indoor/outdoor evergreen shrub has fragrant, creamy white flowers. Its double-bloom thrives in late spring through summer. The dark-green luscious foliage with an upright growth habit reaches 3-4 feet(3 feet wide). Ideally used as a container plant indoor/outdoor, mass planting, specimen, and low-growing hedge.
The Needs
Amount of Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade
Amount of Water: Water regularly; more frequent watering in
extreme heat; Moderately drought tolerant
Soil Conditions: Prefers moist, well-drained soil
Cold Hardiness Zone: 7-11
The Care
This evergreen perennial needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. The first year of growth requires watering weekly. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Mulching is recommended to detour weeds, retain moisture, and temperatures low. Shear annually to maintain desired shape.
